Know your CBD from your Cannabis Sativa?

Cannabis is the beauty ingredient of the moment

By Sandra Cosma, Manager Future Innovation Team

We can all see cannabis sticking around as the beauty ingredient of the moment, but there several ingredients that can come from the cannabis or hemp plants including both cannabidiol oil (CBD) and cannabis sativa seed oil. How do we tell the difference and is it even important in the context of beauty?

CBD and cannabis sativa oil come from different parts of the same plant, but they each have their own unique benefits.

CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant. It’s widely believed to provide relief to a spectrum of skin conditions, when applied topically. CBD is non-psychoactive which means that it will not produce any kind of high but will destress, nurture and balance skin. We conducted an exclusive study to find that CBD helps boost Heat Shock Proteins , the body’s natural de-stressing proteins that help protect skin from stress.

Cannabis sativa seed oil is also high in antioxidants, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, but it contains no CBD. It’s a powerful moisturiser that doesn’t clog pores and soothes and calms skin for irritation and redness reduction. It doesn’t contain any Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the part of the cannabis plant which products psychotropic effects or the ‘high’.

In short, both ingredients are great for your skin, you should just review the benefits you’re looking for from your products to choose what’s right for you. The good news is you can find both at Avon.

Our recently extended Cannabis Sativa Oil Collection is a nourishing and rejuvenating regime for the whole body. It includes an oil-to-milk cleanser; a day cream; a hand and body balm; a lip balm, a lip elixir, an illuminating face essence and a sheet mask, giving a complete programme to soothe, nourish, comfort and soften from head to toe.

Batch 420 CBD Oil from our vegan, eco-conscious pure but potent Distillery collection contains Distillery’s maximum dose of CBD, moisturising sugar-cane-derived squalane and absolutely nothing unnecessary for deep hydration and radiance and generally visibility healthier skin.

We are always researching emerging ingredients to understand what superior benefits they can offer. CBD is a hot trend, but we’ve been fascinated with the cannabis plant for a long time – it’s such a powerhouse. We’re making sure that we capitalise on all its amazing benefits for the best possible performance in our products.
