Anita loves family life with her husband and young son. However, the strong young woman from  Zielona Góra, Poland had a very different experience of family growing up.

“When my father was drunk, that was when I became terrified of him. My father beat me with his fists, there were bruises, blood, sorrow, pain and tears,” she remembers today. “It was a very hard experience and rather traumatic for a child and teenager growing up in a house where violence was prevalent.”

It was an experience she swore she would not repeat when she had a family of her own. “In my family home there was always fear, but when I moved to my own home, there was nothing but calm and unconditional love,” she says. “It was my husband who really showed me what a real home and love are.”

Avon helped her on her journey to become more confident. “Working with Avon, I was able to gradually begin expressing myself as a stronger, more open person,” she says. “I love cosmetics and I love working with people and it showed me that I can develop. I know that this job helps me. This makes me feel great and I have a real passion for this work.”

Today, Anita is passionate about speaking out on the topic of domestic violence. “It’s very important to speak out about the abuse that someone has gone through because it opens everybody up. When you open up and share your experience with others, not only will you become stronger, but you will also help others,” she says.

Her advice to others who are experiencing abuse is clear: get help. She says, “Remember that life is too short to remain in just one chapter of it, to get stuck in the chapter of fear.”
