Breast cancer is the primary cause of death for Peruvian women, with around 1,300 women dying of it every year. It’s thought this figure could be cut dramatically if more women went to their breast cancer screenings.
Avon Peru have supported the League Against Cancer for 16 years, donating $465,000 over this time, to increase early detection of the disease. Now their sights are set on raising a record amount of money at their 15th annual 5K Race and Hike Against Breast Cancer, on Sunday 21st October in the Pentagonito of San Borja.
Local celebrities including Gianella Neyra, Maritee Braschi, Daniela Sarfaty and Adriana Quevedo have joined as ambassadors of the Breast Cancer Promise in Peru, helping to carry the prevention message to more people.
Carlos Guarín, country manager of Avon Peru commented, “At Avon, we don't just empower Peruvian women through their own business, but we also work towards improving their health and physical wellbeing. This year alone we raised $62,000, and these funds will be go towards buying an ultrasound that will screen an average of 20,000 low-income women."
To help maximise the amount of money raised, Avon Peru is also selling a range of special Avon products, with donations to the Crusade Against Breast Cancer.
