Uruguay drive breast cancer prevention message forward

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Avon Uruguay is taking the message of the risks and signs of breast cancer on the road. During October, the team have been driving a customised retro van through Montevideo, Canelones, San José, Colonia and Soriano, raising awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer along the way.

This new campaign is part of Avon’s Breast Cancer Promise the #PinkLightProject, which aims to educate 100 million globally on the risks and signs of breast cancer. In Uruguay alone, around 1,800 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health. One in ten women will suffer from the disease. Avon believes that no woman should die from breast cancer because she does not have medical assistance or access to the necessary information.

The van is full of flyers, stickers and information for members of the public, giving clear and concise information about breast cancer. Avon’s van, which is painted pink and white, and decorated with the breast cancer prevention message, began its journey on October 5th in Montevideo. After travelling around the southern part of the country, the campaign finishes in the city of Mercedes in the Department of Soriano.
