Avon has created a new Global Breast Cancer Advisory Board to support its commitment to helping save lives through awareness and education about breast cancer. The new Global Advisory Board brings together leading breast cancer organisations from around the world to discuss how to save lives and make a difference to women worldwide. The Advisory Board will partner with Avon by offering insight on key issues and advising Avon on how best to deliver the commitment in its Breast Cancer Promise: making sure women aren’t left in the dark about breast cancer by ensuring that they know the risks, know the signs, and know how and when to take action.
The Advisory Board, comprising leading non-governmental organisations from seven different countries, came together for the very first time last week and shared insights breast health priorities. The overwhelming common theme reported in every country was around how early detection of breast cancer saves lives - currently it’s the number one opportunity around the world to save the most lives. To improve early detection rates, education is key in many facets – dispelling myths, overcoming fear and encouraging women to actively monitor their breast health.
Countries represented on the Advisory Board span Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific regions. Organisations involved include Cancer Research UK, Argentinean Mastology Society, União e Apoio no Combate ao Câncer de Mama (Brazil), Philippine Cancer Society, Caravana cu Medici (Romania), National Women’s Health Care Foundation (Russia) and the Turkish Cancer Society.
