20,000 gather in Prague for Walk Against Breast Cancer

This weekend in Prague, more than 20,000 people gathered to participate in Avon Czech Republic’s 19th annual Walk Against Breast Cancer; the biggest charity event in the country.

Alongside the sale of more than 30,000 event t-shirts, participation in the walk raised more than $370,000 USD, with the proceeds to be split across three charity organisations:

“Our Walk Against Breast Cancer has gone from a small event for 150 people in 2001, to a huge festival of 20,000 participants that is full of hope, kindness and empathy. The event is now famous in the Czech Republic and helps us to highlight the importance of cancer prevention and to support our charity partners with life-changing donations.”

Over the last 19 years that the walk has taken place, Avon Czech Republic has donated more than $9 million USD to breast cancer causes.

It forms part of a wider global commitment, through which Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women have donated more than $800 million USD to breast cancer causes globally, educated 180 million women about the disease, and funded breast health screening for nearly 16.4 million women*.

This global support continues through the Avon Breast Cancer Promise, a multi-year pledge educating women about breast health, as part of the stand4her to improve the lives of 100 million women every year.

* Historic figures for women screened have been reviewed and amended based on incorrect screening figures in 2017 and 2018.
