Avon Mexico ‘girl power’ classes to support fight against gender-based violence
Avon Mexico has launched a set of personal self-defence classes to educate, prevent and support women around the issue of gender-based violence. The Girl Power classes, led by personal defence specialist Francisco Marroquin, provide basic self-defence techniques and include an intervention talk from Wendy Figueroa, Director of the National Network of AC Shelters in Mexico.
The classes will be attended by Avon Representatives and employees, as well as lifestyle, fashion and fitness influencers, including beauty blogger @yazkyky, fashion blogger @ferrossas, and lifestyle Youtuber @miri_jim.
The Girl Power campaign represents Avon Mexico’s support of the Avon Promise to End Violence Against Women and Girls , a global programme supported by the Avon Foundation for Women . It forms a key pillar of the stand4her plan to improve the world by advancing women’s earning potential through the power of beauty, and their ability to live a safe and healthy life. Through this promise Avon is committed to encouraging conversation, providing information and improving support around the issue of gender-based violence globally.
Lucía Bertin, Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Avon Mexico said: “violence does not discriminate, and it can affect anyone; regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. Through the Girl Power classes we want to make this historically taboo subject more visible, providing a preventive voice that raises awareness of the issue.”
Since 2004, Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women have contributed more than $60 million USD globally to help raise awareness, provide education and increase support around gender-based violence.
